The UK Defence Committee–how it sees the future

  1. At 15:23-15:25 Sir Peter Wall shoots down the idea that there will be hordes of extra soldiers coming from Germany to Scotland. Rather than the 6500 and similarly improbable numbers that were rumoured when Ming Campbell was fobbed off with when Fox announced Leuchars would close, Wall says that there will be just one extra unit, of 200-500 personnel. I am guessing that these soldiers won't be going to Leuchars. After all, there's a perfectly good base at Arbroath that was used by the marines, and plenty of room at Kinloss too, so why spend money doing up Leuchars?
