The Farage Affair continues to dominate media

Angus Macleod on Good Morning Scotland, wriggling uneasily over the Farage Affair, trying to square his native intelligence with the Times line. Poor Angus!

But Angus' dilemma is as nothing to the dilemma of Better Together and their media shills - to defend Farage or not? Scottish Tories have already fallen into the hole.

Joyce McMillan provides the calm voice of Scottish sanity and Robin McAlpine, of The Jimmy Reid Foundation, talks hard sense.

Angus Macleod more or less celebrates UKIP vote success in his attempts to justify its news value.

Farage Affair: Alex Massie on Good Morning Scotland

Alex Massie: "Left and Right no longer means very much ..." Don't make me laugh, it hurts my ribs, Alex. But I'm sure you wish it so!

  1. Funnily enough I had much the same reaction to Massie's 'left and right' comment ... of course, in England it might be approaching some truth since it's largely 'right and righter'.

  2. The table is now being set and the issues are becoming crystal clear - when do you predict Peter, that the naysayers will drop their opposition and go for the bountiful independent country Scotland can be?

It's not so much fence-sitting, which is a pain in the bahookie to all concerned, but truth evasion and the purvey of false information has a finite life when faced with the facts.

Can you name the tipping-point? I say the White Paper time in the autumn will catalyse this whole shouting-match and the MSM and BBC will have to show the details.

And, the Farage show in Edinburgh was a ploy.

    1. There is little sign of any tipping point in my village, and I have no predictions. My information base is not good enough to predict.

Those who have the feel are the YES canvassers, the ones who leaflet, knock doors, stand in the street and engage with voters. They tell me there is a growing interest and a willingness to listen. The trick is to have the answers ready, and to fill the perceived information gaps with simple, easy to understand messages. Women will be the key - a swing in the female vote will be crucial. How that is to be achieved is another matter.

I wear my little YES badge whenever I can, and I find some people will engage when they see it. But I have not seen a single other YES badge except on activists when canvassing. YES Campaign has to get them out out - and more cheaply. I mean the lapel badges, not the buttons.

      regards,

      Peter
